I hate typing and I hate reading long posts , so I will try to make my rant as brief as possible. U might not like it , but it’s not by force to read it .
Johesu went on 6 weeks long strike , asking for more money asper salaries which is the main crux and also some other stuffs eg right to be addressed as consultants in some fields and also to be called “doctors” in some fields .
1. concerning the remuneration ie wages and salaries . They do deserve a lot more than they are paid , which worker in Nigeria doesn’t deserve more . The workers in Nigeria are grossly underpaid compared to the needs in this economy . If people like sir dinosaur, the albino and famo in the senate get as much as 13million per month for doing next to nothing and other monies as allowances . Johesu people that feel like doctors don’t want their salary increased should remember that even among doctors in different departments , there is rivalry . The consultants believe the residents or medical officers shouldn’t earn so much .Surgeons believe they do more work than pathologists and they shouldn’t earn same salary .And even among the ranks and departments of johesu , am sure such rivalries exist . Rivalries btw the bsc nurses and diploma nurses , btw the lab scientists and lab technicians etc . But be rest assured , this is common in Nigeria , it is the black man mentality in their genes , people don’t want others to be better or higher than them , same obtains even in the mechanic workshop . So please johesu go ahead and forge ur way to more pay and if the doctors feel their money isn’t enough , let them to fight for more . And maybe if they bring down them politicians money , the money might be enough for us all . 18,500 naira minimum wage = 50.8 dollars for a month . 🙌🏾. And if these salaries are not increased soon these health workers will continue leaving this country in droves .
2. Concerning other fields wanting to have consultants , though we have specialist nurses and probably consultant in other climes , Nigeria is a country where regulations are so poor . This is a country where u can “learn” nurse work in 1 year and learn doctor work in 2 years and people refer to them as ductos or Aunty norsi. And I assure u these people practice without being arrested . This is a region where a chemist or pharmacist collects money for diagnosis and prescribed drugs without caution . A place where traditional herbalists are referred to as doctors and they advertise on radio . A country where male nurses ,male attendants , porters are referred to as doctors in their areas at home and they don’t correct the notion . And unfortunately most female doctors are still thought to be nurses . In this part of the world we like to be held in high prestige and given titles , reason why Muslims like putting alhaji with their names , Christians now use JP .some eastern people pay millions just to be called Chief . And some musicians that went to primary school even pay money to be called doctors (honorary). So I leave it to ur imagination to guess what will happen when anybody in the health sector without a PhD gets to be called doctor in this county . NMA and johesu needs to work hand in hand to move the health sector forward and stop all these quackery of non health workers causing plenty deaths ,this intra and inter rivalry will only worsen the situation of this messed up health sector that the elites of this country won’t patronize .
